Born to Lose, Live to Win: Lemmy to be Honored with Statue in Stoke-on-Trent

The legendary frontman and bassist of Motörhead, Ian Fraser Kilmister, better known as Lemmy, could soon be immortalized with a statue in his hometown of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, as early as in November 2023. Plans for the statue have been submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council and, if approved, it will be erected in Burslem's Market Place. Lemmy, born in 1945, was a true rock and roll icon, known for his raw vocals, thundering bass lines, and larger-than-life persona. He founded Motörhead in 1975 and led the band for four decades, releasing some of the most influential and hard-hitting rock music of all time. The proposed statue, designed by local sculptor Andy Edwards, will depict Lemmy in his early days with Motörhead, standing tall on an eight-foot plinth. The plinth will feature the Motörhead logo, personal and career details, and the band's iconic slogan, "Born to Lose, Live to Win." In addition to the statue, there are plans to expand the project to include a branded café, bar, or visitor center, creating a destination for Motörhead fans from around the world.

The statue proposal has been met with enthusiasm from fans and locals alike. It is a fitting tribute to a musical icon who left an indelible mark on the world of rock and roll.
